Pakistani MBA Student Left Severely Injured After Hit by a Car in Houston

Dania Zaheer, a 25-year-old MBA student from Pakistan, is facing a life-altering recovery after being struck by a car near Houston's Galleria in a hit-and-run incident. Dania, who had moved to Houston on a student visa to pursue her degree at North American University, now faces an uncertain future after suffering multiple serious injuries, including a broken pelvis, hip, arm, and femur.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Dania expressed that her physical injuries may not be the worst of it. "I had such a bright future, and now everything is dark," she shared. "My professors even told me I was the kind of person they wanted to hire."

The accident occurred last Thursday evening at the intersection of Westheimer and Sage. According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), the driver fled the scene without stopping. While investigators have a witness and are searching for video footage, they have yet to identify the vehicle or suspect involved.

Dania has been hospitalized at Memorial Hermann, where she is undergoing treatment for her extensive injuries. "There's fluid in my lungs, and it’s hard to breathe," she said. "I don’t understand why I survived. I feel like my life is finished."

Alone in Houston with no family nearby, Dania’s parents are unable to travel to support her due to financial constraints. Her move to the U.S. was intended to help provide them with a better future. "Now I’m all alone, and I don’t know who will take care of me after I leave the hospital," she said.

In response to her story, the Pakistani Association of Greater Houston has connected with Dania and is working to assist her, including exploring the possibility of setting up a fund to help with her medical bills and recovery.
